I am conducting a search for a Santa Monica-based start up that is looking for a senior level sales & marketing executive (will close first 10+ deals for the company). This will be an member of the executive team.
The CRITICAL requirement is that this person has to have Google as a paid account. The actual product/service is not a huge issue, as much as understanding the Google sales process and having successfully negotiated within it.
Ideally, a person who has sold high-end, technical systems is the goal. This person will be responsible for initial sales, development of sales collateral, use cases/ROI data collection, analysis, and publication. Prior experience with new product introduction to the market and/or boot-strap start ups would be great.
Finally, PASSION and a desire to change the paradigm (or simply replace the outdated ones is a must)
As for years of experience, education, verticals, etc., these are less important to being able to show prior success selling into Google and the ability to quickly be a productive, strategic executive in the company. This might be an undergraduate degree and five years of experience, it might be a MS and 10 or more. You show us what you have done, and more importantly..can do, we will listen.

Position Purpose:
The Director of OEM Business Development will be in a unique position to contribute to developing business in an emerging market from the ground level. He/she will be expected to provide substantial insight and action with regard to building a strong business development strategy and roadmap for technology licensing and OEM partnering. Success of the individual will be based on his/her ability to develop a strong network with key players in the industry and ability to create sustainable relationships as well as ability to drive internal consensus on definition and execution of strategy.
This is a business/sales role, which will in addition to traditional sales skills, require creative thinking and deal making with focus on OEM opportunities and partnerships for technology licensing and joint development projects. The candidate will be expected to have strong aptitude for technical understanding of Evolution’s technologies as well as the customer needs for new product development. The candidate will work directly to develop new partnerships, initiate opportunities, and negotiate contracts. The successful person will possess a sales orientation, strong aptitude for understanding complex technologies, a sound understanding of the OEM business model as well as a firm understanding of product development cycles. You will independently research and develop pitches, develop licensing and partnership proposals, present how Evolution meets their product and financial requirements, and move those deals to closure.
The candidate will be someone with proven business development / OEM Sales / product partnering experience and a thorough understanding of product development cycles. You will be involved in all aspects of the relationship including identifying potential partners, initiating contact, establishing a beneficial framework for both parties, generating detailed product proposals, schedule, costing, negotiating license agreements, detailing product strategies, dealing with legal on contracts and licensing agreements, championing partner needs throughout Evolution, and working with other sales channels to leverage all OEM and partnerships.

Working with senior management, nurturing and coordinating relationship with partners to execute on joint development projects to delivery
Developing a business development plan within the context of the overall company strategy and identifying key business development and sales opportunities
Developing technology partnerships and driving execution of strategic partnerships to complete and extend Evolution’s technologies with best-of-breed partner products
Working with key senior management, internal and external product marketing and product management staff to drive success
Formulating, tracking, and executing on both short-term and long-term business development targets
Job Requirements:
Extensive new business development experience, including the ability to develop a BD strategy
50% national and international travel
Relevant business development experience including partnership strategy, negotiation and inbound relationship development
Prior experience in a similar role as a VP or Director of Business Development for 3-5 years and total experience of 5-10+ years.
Success with technology licensing, product development partnering, and selling new products and services to sophisticated channel partners in an emerging industry
Deal negotiation experience―proven closing experience required
Strong business analytical skills
Experience in strategic planning with major corporation or leading management consulting firm
MS, BS or BA degree from an accredited institution

Based in the Pasadena area, this person will oversee day-to-day operations as well as be the leader on planning and long-term strategic growth strategies. Will be responsible for the design, implementation and management of programs across all functional areas of the organization(s). Define processes, build corporate culture and reduce day-to-day operations requirements across the organizations.
